The lyrics of the Verba (Words of Institution) come from the words spoken by Jesus during the Last Supper as He consecrated the bread and wine. Christ tells us to take and eat His body and to drink His blood for the forgiveness of sins. The Verba is used as part of the Liturgy during the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Lyrics:
On the night he was betrayed
he took bread, gave thanks, and broke.
“This is my body.
This is my body.
This is my body.
Take and eat.
Take and eat.
Giv’n for you.
Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
On the night he was betrayed,
he took the cup, gave thanks and spoke,
“Drink from me all of you.
This is my blood.
This is my blood.
This is my blood.
The cov’nant poured new,
poured for you.
Poured for you for sins forgiv’n.
When you drink remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
“Remember me.”
What Wondrous Love is This seems to stand out as a Lenten favorite for both the fans of Koiné and the members of the group. Perhaps it’s the haunting melody set in Dorian minor, or maybe the repetitive and reflective style of the lyrics. But most likely, it’s the message of truth that the Son of God payed the price for our sins and through Christ’s sacrifice, we are saved.
The origins of this hymn are quite fascinating. If you would like to find out more, check out the Wikipedia page.
LYRICS:
What wondrous love is this,
O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this
That caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse
for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul!
When I was sinking down,
sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down
Beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside his crown
For my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul.
To God and to the Lamb
I will sing, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb,
Who is the great I Am,
While millions join the theme,
I will sing, I will sing,
While millions join the theme, I will sing.
And when from death I’m free,
I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
And when from death I’m free,
I’ll sing his love for me,
And through eternity
I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
And through eternity I’ll sing on.
